A collection of photos taken on the 27th of June 2009, during a trip along the former BG branch to Oaklands. At present, the line is currently SG to Yarrawonga, with only one siding now existing, that being at St.James. Beyond Yarrawonga, the line is still BG, but conversion is immenent. This collection also contains photos of a station on the Former NSWGR branch to Oaklands, that station being Urala.

 | Fri 26th Jun 09 | Lilydale - Warburton Line (CLOSED)
The Lilydale to Warburton Line opened on Wednesday the 13th of November 1901. The lines main purpose was to haul timber and to transport goods & passengers to the communties along the line. By the early 1960's, the line was losing money. The passenger service ceased in 1964 and the line was closed on Thursday the 29th of July 1965. There was a Railfan special to mark the last train on the Line. The track was removed in the 1970's. The line has now been converted to a rail-trail.

On Saturday the 8th Of November, the last day of Broad Gauge passenger operations occured on the Albury Line. N453 'City of Albury' had the honours of hauling the last up broad gauge train carrying passengers to depart from Albury's Dock Platform.

 | Wed 1st Oct 08 | Adelaide- Broad Gauge to Peterborough & Narrow Gauge to Orroroo
A South Australian Road trip, stopping at all of the closed stations between Roseworthy (north of Gawler) to Burra. The 5'3" presently terminates at Burra, however, the track has been booked out since early 2008. Several stations between Burra and Peterborough were also visited, this is still on the original corridor of the 5'3". The steamtown depot at Peterborough was also visited, and Peterborough is where the 5'3" terminated. Peterborough is famous, as it is the only location in the Southern Hemisphere where 3 rail gauges meet. Those being 3'6" (NG), 4'8.5" (SG) and 5'3" (BG). The NG was followed to the terminus at Orroroo. Port Pirie and Jamestown were also visited on the return to Adelaide

Not since 1970 had this been seen, Double headed J class steamers. And those from two different orders of locomotives, those being an Oil Burning & Coal burning locomotive. On the 26th of July, a sight that hadn't been seen in a generation occured.

A long interstate gunzel trip. Departed Melbourne on Friday 27th and departed Adelaide at 8pm on Wednesday. All the TransAdelaide lines were covered, even Tonsley! The tram was also covered, from City West to Glenelg. This will be the keystone to many future collections covering Adelaide and South Australian Operations in general.

 | Sat 14th Jun 08 | The Last Broad Gauge Steam To Albury
On Saturday the 14th, Steamrail ran a train to mark the last broad gauge steam train between Melbourne-Albury. The line between Seymour and Albury is being gauge converted later this year. The train was subjected to sucessive delays and constant mind-changing by V/Line. The train was disabled at Mangalore, due to poor coal. The R eventually made it into Seymour Station at 2am, where the train was terminated and passengers transfered to road coaches. The coaches arrived into the City at about 3.45am

This collection of photos consists of two trips up the North East Broad Gauge Line
20/2/08: Consisted of a visit to Springhurst and Chiltern Stations. Chiltern station has a historically listed station building, which is listed at a state level by the National Trust. Springhurst station was once the former junction station for the branch line to Wahgunyah. The junction has now been removed however, the track still exists from the first level crossing onwards to Wahgunyah.
21/2/08: Consisted of another trip up the North East Broad Gauge, this time to Albury. Not much was seen, and was more a trip to ensure that if a possible conversion of the line to SG did occur, I had high quality images from ‘buffer to buffer’. This was the last time to date that #8324 orginated from Albury. It's now a bus to Wangaratta

Word got around that an Extra daylight Tocumwal was running due to the docks being so far behind, lots of containers had been left at Tocumwal, me and several friends motorcaded this train all the way to Tocumwal and back to Shepparton

Puffing Billy ran 'The Gembrook Mixed', to recreate a 1910 era mixed goods train bound for Gembrook. This trip featured serveral photostops and shunting at Clematis. I motorcaded one way, and rode the train back.

 | Sun 25th Nov 07 | The 'Official' Spirit of Progress 70th Anniversary Tour
On Sunday the 25th, the Department of Infrastructure and The Seymour Railway Heritage Center teamed together to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 'Spirit of Progress'. All the carriages (some have been modified) were all orginally on the spirit when it went into service in November 1937. The Parlor Car was a huge sucess throughout the whole day and this combined with the Dining Car made sure that the Spirit Of Progress is remembered for quite some time to come

On the 17th of November, Steamrail ran the 70th Anniversary of the Spirit Of Progress on the Broad Gauge track to Wodonga. The train got delayed due to lack of a train examiner at Spencer Street and was further delayed at Seymour, as it had to wait for the regular Albury bound passenger train to clear Riggs Creek Loop (near Violet Town) The train subsequently arrived in albury at 1.05pm, some 3hrs late

On saturday the 13th of October, steamrail ran the Vintage train to Seymour as the 'Grapevine Flier'. The tour was the first time the R had run at 115km/h on the main line as the Seymour line still has Mechanical signalling, which incidently, is more reliable than computerised signalling. The tour ran on-time all day and was a great sucess

On the 30th of September, the Broadmeadows line was offically extended to Craigieburn. There was a ceremony at Craigieburn with the Premier John Brumby and Transport Minister, Lynne Kosky, who boarded the down service at Roxburgh Park.

Today marked the end of an era. It was the last time train number #8305 would double head to Albury and split to form 2 seperate trains upon arrival at Albury. N461 & N475 had the honours.
Train number #8318, the 2.25pm service from Albury To Spencer Street was the last regular Albury service to express through Chiltern, Springhurst, Violet Town and Avenel.

A trip to St.Arnaud behind R761 on a Classic Railway Tour. Sadly, the trip arrived into Spencer street when it was meant to leave, and it lost its path. It terminated at Sunshine on the way back at 2.15am Monday morning, due to an occupation occurring on the suburban tracks, even when they knew we were coming through. A collection of photographs of the Geelong-Ballarat line in South-Western Victoria to the Western District. The line was built as Double track in 1862, and was singled due to its low usage in 1934.
There is a crossing facility at Meredith and it is the last place in Victoria to use a Double-Wire Frame. The frame was last used in Janurary 2004.
